Metal-Free Dentistry

Exceptional Care without Any Metal

When you come to Dr. Alani's Houston dental office, you'll find that we offer metal-free versions of several dental services. There a few reasons for doing this. First, it's possible for some patients to have an allergic reaction to metal. Second, there is the potential, however slight, for toxicity with some forms of metal dentistry. Taking metal out of the equation allows us to offer care that our patients can accept without any anxiety related to wellbeing or long-term consequences. And there are also aesthetic considerations. Metal-free services yield results that look more natural.

Two of our Houston dental office's metal-free services include:

Tooth-Colored Fillings

Cavities, which are used to treat to decay, were once made from a mixture of different metals, including mercury. Now, however, it's possible to treat decay with fillings that are completely free of any metals. Tooth-colored fillings are made of composite resin, which is a combination of plastic and glass. They can easily be shaded to blend in with your smile's natural color, so no one ever has to know about your fillings. What's more, tooth-colored fillings don't change shape over time, and they support the tooth's natural structure in a way that metal fillings don't. As a result, you can keep more of your natural smile and avoid the cracking that can come with metal fillings over time.

Porcelain Crowns

Some crowns are made from metal, but our Houston office uses porcelain crowns to restore fractured or extensively decayed teeth. Porcelain reflects light in a way similar to natural enamel, so the results are always discreet. Plus, with porcelain crowns, no one will be able to see a dark line at the gums, which can happen with crowns that use porcelain fused to metal. Our crowns also have a precise fit, which helps reduce chances of irritation, gum disease, and gum recession.

Our Houston office also offers ceramic onlays, which are similar to crowns, except they don't cover the entire tooth. Instead, onlays only cover about half the tooth. During a consultation visit, Dr. Alani will assess your needs and help you understand which of our metal-free options are right for you.
